In April 2004, LabWare was selected as the successful Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) supplier to Australian biotechnology company, Genetic Technologies Limited (GTG). GTG is an ASX-listed, S&P Top 300 company holding a valuable portfolio of international patents in the field of non-coding DNA. The company carries out extensive IP-generating research and is currently expanding its fee-for-service DNA testing in the areas of human, veterinary and agricultural applications. GTG holds technology patents in three leading areas of genetics: non-coding analysis, non-coding genomic mapping, and foetal cell recovery. The non-coding patents cover most genes in most species and a major activity of the company is the licensing of these non-coding patents. GTG has been providing a DNA testing service since 1988 and operates the largest parentage-testing laboratory in Australia. In March 2004, the company became the first private laboratory in Australia to be accredited by NATA to perform DNA testing in forensic science. New programs in medical, veterinary and forensic testing at GTG have necessitated expansion of operational capacity with the introduction of the latest automated DNA extraction, genotyping and sequencing equipment. The growing volume of specimens received for testing and the massive expansion of laboratory data generated by these tests has also led to the need to introduce efficient data management systems. LabWare LIMS was chosen by GTG to expand its capacity to manage its high throughput genetic testing lab environment.
