Instrument Interfacing

The majority of LabWare's customers have interfaced their laboratory instruments to LIMS using our integrated LabStation module. LabStation is a general purpose instrument interfacing tool that can accept results from just about any type of instrument and then enter those results into LIMS automatically or upon your review and approval.

LabStation offers a number of mechanisms to interface to specific types of instruments to LIMS such as:
  • Serial RS-232 Communications (COM ports)
  • File-based Import
  • Reports stored in the NuGenesis Unify / Vision product (Version 5.2 or higher)

Once the result has been acquired, LabStation can apply a user-defined set of parsing instructions to parse out the key result information that LIMS is expecting from the instrument, such as the result amount, system name, operator name, raw data file name, and measure units. Instrument sequences can be batched and downloaded to the instrument that includes information such as the sequence order, unique sample and test identifiers, and instrument specific set up parameters.

Additional Details

LabStation comes with a complete library of parsing functions and logical operators that allow you to tailor a parsing script for each type of instrument you want to interface with. LabWare provides a number of pre-built LabStation parsing scripts out of the box for many popular brands of instruments. During the LIMS implementation process, our instrument interfacing specialists can provide you with expert assistance and training on LabStation at your site to get your instruments interfaced quickly. One of the many benefits to our integrated approach to instrument interfacing with LabStation is compliance with 21 CFR Part 11. LabStation can ensure the following attributes about the instrument and the user interacting with LIMS:
  • Current calibration and preventative maintenance status of the instrument
  • Current training status of the user with respect to the instrument and the analysis being performed
  • Link the original raw data with the LIMS result
  • Archive and move the original raw data file to a protected network location
  • Track the date and time, workstation, and user who performed the analysis on the instrumentation

LabStation ensures better compliance and makes your laboratory more efficient while saving you money, because LabStation is provided as an integrated module that ships with LabWare LIMS.
