 | Sometimes it is necessary to associate LIMS data with information stored in files elsewhere on the network - perhaps graphics images or document files such as SOPs. LabWare LIMS provides links between all database records and external files. The presence of a link to an external file is indicated by an icon displayed on screen - and if the file type is recognized by Windows; for example, with a jpeg or html file, the appropriate application icon is displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the window. The contents of the external link file can be displayed simply by clicking on the icon. LabWare LIMS can be set up to use an existing file in its original location or copy the file to a central location on a network server, even into the database itself, where it can be accessed by all LabWare LIMS users.

External file links associated with samples and tests can be accessed at all stages of sample processing. For example, standard operating procedure documents (SOPs) associated with a test procedure can be accessed directly from the LabWare LIMS test editor or result entry screens by clicking on the displayed icon. This allows the person entering results or reviewing the data to access all the information related to the samples and tests. |
