Lot Manager is designed to facilitate the checking of a manufacturing Lot against specifications. In LIMS, a Lot is a collection of samples that is associated with one or more stages of manufacture, including the testing of raw materials. Certain industries refer to a Lot as a Batch and the terms can be used interchangeably. Within LabWare LIMS, the Lot Manager interface is used to view, manage and disposition Lots. The interface displays summary information on all of the samples for the Lot, as well as allowing the display of detailed information. The information associated with a Lot can be easily configured using Lot Templates to match specific requirements. Samples can be created and associated with a Lot at any stage, including Pre-Delivery Samples. Events can be triggered based on status changes to the Lot. In addition, reports can be easily generated for all of the samples in a Lot.
Optionally, Sample Plans can be created in LabWare LIMS and used to automatically log samples when a Lot of product is created, based on the quantity field in the Lot. The Sample Plan can be defined at the Product level using the Sample Plan field that is included in the Product table. Alternatively, the Sample Plan field can be included on the Lot Template so that a Sample Plan may be specified when the Lot is created.
R&D can also use Lot Manager as they refine the testing regimen for a new product before it goes into pilot plant or manufacturing scale-up. Samples, Tests, and their Product Specifications are associated with a manufacturing Lot or Batch. When the testing is complete, the material can be dispositioned for release or rework. A Lot of material that is being tested can also be checked against multiple Product Specifications simultaneously such as when a product is being shipped to multiple markets throughout the world.

ERP Systems, like SAP/R3, track manufactured Lots of material that may require testing during manufacture and for release. LabWare's Lot Manager interfaces to may common ERP systems like, SAP, Baan, BPCS, Movex, JD Edwards, and Oracle. Lot Manager has been specifically interfaced to the SAP/R3 Quality Manager (QM) module. The SAP QM module drives the creation of new Lots in LIMS. Once the testing is complete, Lot Manager passes a "Usage Decision" for the Lot back to SAP. |
